Maui and Kauai were named the top two U.S. islands, respectively, in the Conde Naste Traveler 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards announced Oct. 11.
More than 28,000 readers participated in the survey, which will appear in the November issue of the publication that also features rankings of the world’s best resorts, hotels, cities, airlines and cruise lines.
The Big Island of Hawaii, Oahu and Lanai finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the U.S. island ranking (only third-rated Kiawah Island, south of Charleston, S.C., prevented an Aloha State sweep of the top five spots).
The Travasa Hana, formerly the Hotel Hana Maui, finished first in the Hawaii resort rankings, followed by the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and the Trump International Hotel Waikiki.
Honolulu earned the fifth spot on the survey’s ranking of U.S. cities, and Hawaiian Airlines finished third on the list of top U.S. airlines.
