Hawaiian Airlines has received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin flights between Honolulu and Beijing in 2014.

The carrier is still waiting on approval from the Chinese government, however, according to a company spokesman.

Hawaiian made an April announcement outlining its plan to offer nonstop service to China in 2014 and is scheduled to inaugurate flights to Taipei, Taiwan, and Sendai, Japan, this summer.
