Disney opened its Aulani Resort & Spa Aug. 29, welcoming its first paying guests to the 21-acre west Oahu property.
The highly anticipated opening follows more than six years of planning and construction at a total estimated cost of $800 million.
A total of 217 hotel rooms and around 75 of the property’s timeshare units are available as of the today’s opening. Disney plans to make its full compliment of 359 hotel rooms and 480 timeshare units available in two coming phases, later this year and in 2013.
The beachfront resort also features a saltwater snorkel lagoon, a lazy river, an 18,000-square-foot spa, several pools and restaurants along with a range of daily Hawaiian cultural activities and performances.
