Tom Donovan has been named managing director of the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort on Maui.
Officials at Hilton Worldwide, which manages the 40-acre south Maui resort, announced the appointment Oct. 16.
Donovan worked most recently as the vice president and general manager of the 463-room Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua on Maui and previously held G.M. positions at the Ritz-Carlton Resort, Bachelor Gulch in Edwards, Colo., and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Phoenix.
“Tom is the clear choice to lead Grand Wailea,” Jerry Gibson, area vice president for Hilton Worldwide, said in a statement “He is an engaging executive with great leadership skills, knowledge of operations, financial acumen and an advocate of the Hawaiian culture. He has done an exemplary job leading his previous resorts, [and] we are confident he will achieve even greater success at Grand Wailea.”
The Government of Singapore Investment Corp. acquired the 780-room Grand Wailea in March and “is already devoting resources in capital improvement projects that will enhance the resort’s unique offerings,” according to officials.
