The Hawaii Convention Center has made up for some of the downturn in the U.S. business travel market by attracting more than 24,000 international attendees to host their events in Hawaii this year.
Several Hawaii Convention Center employees traveled to Japan last year to learn about catering to Japanese visitors.
While U.S. attendees tend to base their impressions on over-the-top gestures and value add-ons, the Japanese are more satisfied when all the smallest details are met, an HTA official said.
Business meetings and the incentive market generally tend to book six to eight years in advance. The HCC is hosting three dental conventions in 2009.
