Hawaii Superferry to begin service Aug. 28

Hawaii Superferry set Aug. 28 as the inaugural date for scheduled service aboard the Alakai linking Oahu with Maui and Kauai, using its new 340-foot high-speed ferry.

The 866-passenger boat accommodates up to 282 cars, buses and trucks.

Service from Oahu to the Big Island is planned for 2009 when the firm takes delivery of a second vessel.

Reservations are being accepted on the Alakai for travel from Aug. 28 through Jan. 15.
