George Szigeti will likely be confirmed as the next president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) at the organization’s May 12 board meeting, according to several local media reports.

Szigeti, who has been the president and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association since 2012, will take over for current HTA chief Ron Williams.

Williams stepped into the role last fall on an interim basis after Mike McCartney, who had served as HTA president and CEO since 2009, left the post to become Hawaii Gov. David Ige’s chief of staff.

A one-time professional surfer, Szigeti served from 1997 to 2012 as the president and CEO of Better Brands Ltd., a wholesaler and distributor of wine, beer and spirits. He is also a past president of the Hawaii Food Industry Association.
