Hawaiian Airlines carried more than 8.3 million passengers in 2009, the most ever in the carrier's 80-year history.

According to a Jan. 8 statement outlining the company's Q4 systemwide traffic statistics, Hawaiian's total number of passengers transported was up 6.2% when compared with 2008, and the carrier's load factor inched up 1.3% year over year to 83.9%.

The airline also finished the year strong, posting an 8.8% increase in its passengers-carried totals for December and an 83.6% load factor for the month, up 4.1% from 2008.
