Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed a bill April 8 extending the city’s smoking ban to several Oahu beaches, including those in Waikiki.
Taking effect immediately, the bill prohibits smoking at Duke Kahanamoku Beach Park in Waikiki along with Kapiolani Beach Park and throughout Kapiolani Park. Other beaches included in the ban are Sandy Beach Park on the eastern coast of Oahu and beaches at Ala Moana Regional Park.
“Everyone deserves to enjoy healthy and smoke-free public spaces, and that includes our beautiful beaches,” Caldwell said in a statement.
Violators face fines of up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second violation within one year and $500 for subsequent violations.
