Interisland carrier Island Air has signed a letter of intent to lease five ATR 42 jet prop aircraft from Chicago-based Aerway Leasing.
Two of the aircraft will be added to the airline’s fleet before the end of the year, and the remaining three planes will be delivered in the summer of 2013.
“These aircraft represent an integral part of our plan to deliver on our service commitment to the ever-increasing number of guests flying with us each day and is the next step in our New Business Plan,” Island Air CEO, Lesley Kaneshiro, said in a statement.
Island Air announced plans earlier this year to replace its existing fleet of three DeHavilland Dash 8 planes with newer ATR jet prop aircraft. The carrier also unveiled a new logo and branding in July.
Island Air operates more than 350 weekly flights across Hawaii.
