Hawaii interisland carrier Island Air has announced CEO Paul Casey will step down Oct. 1. Casey will be succeeded by David Pflieger, who is currently the president and CEO of Fort Lauderdale-based Silver Airways.

“Dave is a highly respected industry veteran with an impressive track record at several of the world’s best airlines,” Island Air Chairman Paul Marinelli said in a statement. “His award-winning customer service and operational record and his dedication to an employee-focused culture will be instrumental to our future success.”

Prior to his time at Silver Airways, Pflieger oversaw the financial turnaround at Fiji Airways, the country’s national carrier known formerly as Air Pacific.

Casey, a former president and CEO of both Hawaiian Airlines and the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureau, took over as Island Air’s CEO May 1, 2013.

He will assume an advisory role to the company’s board of directors, according to Island Air officials.
