Regularly billed as one of the nation’s most scenic runs, the 39th annual Maui Marathon will begin before dawn on Sept. 20.

Most of the 26.2-mile stretch is run within 50 feet of the Pacific, between Kahului and Kaanapali.

This year’s host hotel, the Westin Maui Resort & Spa, will be home to a welcome Carbo Luau for participating marathoners on Sept. 18 and the following day’s sports and fitness expo.

Event festivities will conclude with an awards ceremony Sunday evening and reception in the resort’s Valley Isle Ballroom after the marathon.

The three-day event also features a 5 kilometer run and a range of local entertainment. During the marathon, every race aid station along the route will host different Hawaiian themes, including live music and hula dancers.
