Mokulele Airlines hopes to debut charter flights between Honolulu and Rockford, Ill., next March and then launch international charter service from there to London’s Stansted Airport in May, according to a Dec. 15 Rockford Register Star report.

The Hawaii-based airline is still awaiting approval from the FAA to operate the flights but received a one-year $1.4 million revenue guarantee, pending the federal go-ahead, from the Greater Rockford Airport Authority Dec. 15. Rockford is located about 90 miles northwest of Chicago.

“Part of our strategic plan is to grow our destination base and in particular grow our international base,” said Amy Ott, interim director at the Chicago Rockford Airport, in the Register Star’s report. “We believe both of these products will fit with what we offer.”

Ticket sales for the Honolulu-Rockford charter flights, likely to debut March 16, would begin as soon as FAA approval is given. Mokulele Tours, a subsidiary of Mokulele Airlines, will operate the service.
