Modern Management Services, an affiliate of Aqua Hotels & Resorts, was granted a temporary liquor license for the recently renamed Modern Honolulu hotel Sept. 1, allowing service to continue at the property’s food and beverage outlets.
“The liquor license ensures employees at the Modern Honolulu can remain on the job,” Ben Rafter, president and CEO of Aqua Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement.
The property’s Crazybox nightclub has been closed temporarily, however, due to trademark restrictions. Modern Management said they plan to reopen the club in the near future with a new name.
The hospitality company took over day-to-day operations at was formerly the Waikiki Edition after the property’s owners, San Diego-based M Waikiki LLC, ousted Marriott from managing the 353-room hotel Aug. 28.
M Waikiki filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Aug. 31 after Marriott received a court order earlier that day to take back control of the hotel.
