Work on the new $56 million Pearl Harbor visitor center was officially finished May 3 as an additional 161-space parking lot was opened to visitors.

A product of three years’ worth of renovation and construction, the visitor center itself has been expanded from 3.5 acres to more than 17 and features a range of state-of-the-art exhibits and facilities. In addition, it now provides centralized ticketing for Pearl Harbor’s principal historical sites.

The most visited attraction across Hawaii in terms of annual visitors, Pearl Harbor’s combined historical sites welcomed 1.5 million patrons in 2010.
