For the third year in a row, the Obamas spent the Christmas and New Year's holidays on Oahu.
Preferring to pass his time primarily out of the spotlight, the president played several rounds of golf at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, spent Dec. 28 snorkeling at Hanauma Bay with family and friends, made quick a trip with his daughters to Island Snow in Kailua for shave ice, played basketball and even did a little bowling.
The Obamas stayed in a multimillion-dollar vacation home in Kailua on Oahu's eastern shore.
President Obama was born in Honolulu and spent 14 of the first 18 years of his life on Oahu. He and his family were expected to return to Washington Jan. 2.
