From a group of finalists including New York, Florida, California and Arizona, Travel Weekly readers selected Hawaii as the Best U.S. State Destination in the publication's seventh annual Readers' Choice Awards.
"We are truly honored that Hawaii has been chosen for such a prestigious award," Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, said in a statement announcing the honor. "A big mahalo to the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureau, its island chapters and Hawaii's visitor industry employees for their outstanding efforts, support and hard work throughout the year."
Hawaii has won the Best U.S. State Destination award in Travel Weekly's annual Readers' Choice awards for the sixth consecutive year. Maui, which won this year's Best In Hawaii distinction, has also captured that honor six years running.
Representing the "best of the travel industry," the nominees and 58 eventual award recipients were selected by Travel Weekly readers. Full coverage will appear the week of Jan. 18.
