Volcano House travel42 Professional Hotel Review
Location and History
Precariously positioned in what is perhaps the most unusual locale for a hotel anywhere—planted 4,000 feet above sea level and hugging the rim of an active volcano—this historic National Park lodge may lack the architectural prowess of The Majestic (formerly the Ahwahnee) in Yosemite, Yellowstone's Lodge or Fred Harvey's historic El Tovar on the Grand Canyon's South Rim, but this modest board-and-batten inn offers the opportunity of a lifetime.
