Built around a soaring John Portman-style 14-story atrium and a courtyard garden, this better-than-average Westin stands in architectural contrast to the chic Madison next door. (This was one of the last of the great atrium hotels to be built in the U.S., a style that critics now lambast as being energy inefficient, insular and anti-urbanist.)
