ACAPULCO, Mexico - Mexico's Tianguis Turistico conference is the time when hoteliers traditionally promote new hotels, renovations and expansions, and this year's event was no exception.

" The Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya will open this fall. The 128-room resort aims to combine Asian tradition with local Mayan elements.

" AMResorts President Alejandro Zozaya said the company will open an all-inclusive resort in Mexico under the Secrets Resorts & Spas brand, in addition to two such properties already planned for the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Secrets Maroma Riviera Cancun, about 25 minutes south of Cancun Airport, will open in the fall of 2007 with 425 rooms.

" A St. Regis Resort and Residences is slated to open in Punta Mita, on the Pacific coast north of Puerto Vallarta, in early 2008. The 120-room property will have 65 villas for both fractional and whole ownership.

" Grupo Posadas, which owns the Fiesta Americana, Caesar Park and Fiesta Inn brands, plans to launch its economy One Hotels brand in Mexico City before the end of the year. Plans call for 50 hotels throughout the country, targeted primarily at business travelers.

Grupo Posadas also announced the completion of renovations at resorts.

The Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach in Cancun has a larger beach and refurbished landscaping and public areas. The Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun's restaurants have been renovated, its business center modernized and its swimming pool spruced up with Venetian mosaic tile.

On nearby Cozumel, the Fiesta Americana Cozumel Dive Resort has new room furnishings, a redesigned restaurant and expanded beach club.

" Tesoro Resorts announced $10 million worth of renovations at its rebranded all-inclusive properties in Los Cabos, Manzanillo and Ixtapa.

Previously operated as Costa Real Pacific Coast resorts, the properties were relaunched at the beginning of 2006 under the Tesoro brand name.

In mid-April, the 286-room Tesoro Los Cabos property began room renovations to introduce what was described as "tropical minimalist" decor. The property is also adding a new rooftop restaurant and two lounges.

Meanwhile, the Tesoro Manzanillo plans to introduce a new outdoor activities and kiddie pool area. Later this year, the company will announce renovation plans for the 170-room Tesor Ixtapa.

Plans call for the all-inclusive Tesoro brand to be introduced in other destinations in Mexico, as well as in Central America, in the near future, according to Rod Emery, CEO of Steadfast Cos., which owns Tesoro.

" The 76-room Hacienda Vista Real Villas & Spa, in Playa del Carmen, has opened a new spa with 24 treatment rooms. Situated inside a pyramid designed to resemble anicent Mayan architecture at Chichen Itza, the Spa Vida Real offers 35 treatments on its spa menu, and also includes a "Zen garden" where guests can go for relaxation and meditation.

" Sol Melia's Paradisus brand is introducing a family concierge service that includes in-room amenities such as kid-size bathrobes, slippers and towels, as well as amenity kits for children and optional Sony PlayStation video game equipment.

The service also includes walkie-talkies for parents to communicate with the concierge and a minibar stocked with juice and milk.

The Melia brand, meanwhile, has introduced a VIP floor with additional services and amenities, to be available at the Melia Turquesa, Melia Puerto Vallarta and Melia Cozumel in time for the winter season. It will be introduced at the Melia Cabo Real in 2007.

Called the Melia Experience, the VIP floor offers 24-hour assistance with activity planning and other services, as well as upgraded guestrooms.

The Melia Cabo San Lucas recently finished a renovation that includes redesigned guestrooms and a new, 36-room VIP floor called The Level, which offers complimentary breakfast, DVD players and iPod docking stations among its amenities. The property also renovated its 1,660 square feet of meeting space.

Sol Melia's Paradisus Cancun and Melia Cozumel properties reopened in January, following extensive, post-Hurricane Wilma renovations.
