Acapulco tourism officials are to be admired for their dogged determination to revamp an image that has lost some of its luster in recent years due to drug violence and other factors.
In recent months, Acapulco, along with Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco, partnered to launch the Sun Triangle initiative, promote it with a website in English and Spanish and position the region for international visitors.
The state of Guerrero and the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office again have partnered with StudentCity, a U.S.-based tour operator specializing in high school and college student travel with the goal of returning spring-breakers to Acapulco.
“We are committed to returning spring break tourism to Acapulco, Mexico’s first beach destination,” said Javier Aluni, Guerrero’s secretary of tourism.

“This partnership and campaign with StudentCity will help us target this specific market for the upcoming winter and spring travel season,” he said.
Acapulco recently hosted a fam trip with 18 representatives from StudentCity and Toronto-based youth travel operator Breakaway Tours on hotel site inspections and tours of nightlife hot spots and clubs with student appeal.
They also visited some of Acapulco’s attractions, including the cliff divers at la Quebrada.
