InsightWhat a difference a website makes, according to Oscar Ortiz, director of Cabo Expeditions in Los Cabos.

Since launching its new site in English three months ago, bookings have spiked by more than 35% for the 15-year-old tour operator.

A bilingual English-Spanish version was introduced in September, due to the popularity of the tour offerings and demand from the Mexican market.

The site uses high-resolution photos and videos to showcase its inventory of and rates for adventure excursions in Los Cabos and La Paz, which include whale-watching tours, parasailing, “snuba” (a snorkeling/scuba hybrid), sea treks, snorkeling and two new six-hour city tours of Los Cabos ($89 for adults, $45 for kids up to 10 years of age) and Todos Santos ($75 and $40, respectively).

But there’s a lot more to the site than pictures and prices, Ortiz said.

Cabo Expeditions parasail“We are adding a booking engine for travel agents in the next month that features special rates for their clients and an incentive feature that offers a free tour for every 10 excursions booked,” he said. “The agent can give the excursion to a client or save it to use during an agent fam visit.”

Agent commission on excursions booked and sold is 30%.

The user-friendly site, which is integrated with social media sites and online booking functions, has averaged 15 bookings per day, a figure that Ortiz forecasts will grow as the peak winter season approaches.

Other features include an ask-the-expert section, consumer reviews, an FAQ section that spells out what level of activity is needed for each excursion and an easy-to-understand explanation of reservation cancellation and change policies.

“We don’t have an app at the moment, but we need to develop a strategy to get into the mobile market and to be able to offer it free to a guest,” Ortiz said.

The site, designed by California-based Capstone Studios, was a six-month effort that entailed updating Cabo Expeditions’ existing content and moving it into smaller chunks of information supported by images, video, social commentary, easy-to-book-now buttons and online pay functions.
