InsightGayNagleMyersVallarta Food Tours, a local operator in Puerto Vallarta, has tapped into a niche market of travelers who want more than sun and sand on a Mexican vacation.

The company offers walking tours that combine food tastings and visits to neighborhoods along with cultural stops along the way.

The Best of Pitillal Food and Cultural tour, the newest offering, “uncovers life in a typical Mexican town untouched by tourism,” according to VFT co-owner Lindsay Prime. “The focus is on family-owned businesses where true artistry is paramount and things are still made by hand.”

Vallarta Food ToursTour participants stroll the streets and plazas of Pitillal (pee-tee-yall), about 4 miles outside of Puerto Vallarta, and sample local dishes along the way. Culinary creations include carnitas (braised pork) tacos, churros (a fried pastry similar to funnel cake) and tamales.

The three-hour tour is $49 for adults and $35 for children, commissionable at 16%. Agents should contact VFT at [email protected]. Additional details are available at www.vallartafoodtours.com.
