Mexico President Felipe Calderon will star in a one-hour travel special on PBS that showcases the country through the eyes of its head of state.
“Mexico: The Royal Tour" will air on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m., hosted by travel writer Peter Greenberg.
Calderon and Greenberg traveled from Chihuahua in the north to Cozumel on the Gulf, exploring many of Mexico’s iconic sites as well as lesser-known historic and colonial sites that are accessible to travelers.
Viewers will see the two men ziplining, diving into Mexico’s cenotes, visiting the pyramids of Chichen Itza and the Mayan village of Metzabok, rappelling into the Cave of Swallows in San Luis Potosi and whale-watching in Baja.
During the program, Calderon discusses with Greenberg the current state of affairs in Mexico as well as the war on the drug cartels.
“We’ve been given extraordinary access to both a country and its leader during a pivotal time in Mexico’s history,” Greenberg said.
“While we explore many of the little-known gems of this country, President Calderon discusses the drug battle and what it really means to travelers."
