Legacy Group, a South African hospitality company, will open Elephant Point River Suites at its private reserve on the Sabie River in Mpumalanga on May 15.
The 42-suite property sits within an active wildlife corridor, which is what distinguishes it from most safari properties in the region. Tunnels, bridges and concealed pathways built into the reserve allow elephant, hippo and antelope to move freely through the grounds. Sightings happen from suite terraces and plunge pools as often as they do on game drives.
The spacious, villa-style suites depart from a traditional hotel layout. They offer several living spaces, dedicated study areas for extended stays and uninterrupted views of the Sabie River and surrounding plains. Each features an open-plan interior, a private terrace and a plunge pool. Stays include 24-hour butler service to manage in-suite dining and activity bookings.
Game drives, bush walks and more
The property offers up to two daily game drives and bush walks. Regional add-ons available to operators include helicopter flights, cultural village visits, the Panorama Route, Graskop Gorge and golf. On-site facilities include a spa, gym, yoga terrace, walking trails and padel and tennis courts.
The culinary program was developed by two-Michelin-star chef Conrad Gallagher. San, the signature restaurant, centers on fire-led cooking and seasonal ingredients. Tilo, the property's cocktail lounge, offers a share-style menu built around indigenous botanicals.
The development is solar-powered and generated more than 1,000 construction jobs, with 300 permanent roles ongoing.
