Marriott International has expanded its footprint in Africa.

The hotel group made its debut in Mali with the opening of 200-room Sheraton Bamako Hotel at the beginning of May. Strategically located in close proximity to Bamako's Modibo Keita Airport in one of the city's most sought-after neighborhoods, the hotel provides easy access to the city center, major embassies, corporate offices and government buildings as well as numerous cultural and tourism attractions.

Furthermore, Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott International's distinctive collection of independent hotels, welcomed five African Pride Hotels to its growing global portfolio, marking the debut of the brand in South Africa.

The properties are the African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel, African Pride 15 on Orange Hotel, African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa, African Pride Irene Country Lodge, Arabella Hotel & Spa and the Arabella Country Estate. They join the brand's diverse portfolio of more than 135 hotels.

Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director of Middle East and Africa for Marriott International, commented that South Africa is a strategic growth market for the brand.
