FORT LAUDERDALE -- Travel professionals, cruise executives and major lines gathered on Twitter Wednesday for the annual cruise-focused #TWchats and the kickoff to Travel Weekly's CruiseWorld show.
This year, the focus of the chat was "cruise design innovation," based off Travel Weekly's Focus on Cruise report published earlier this month.
The introduction of the Norwegian Escape and the stateside appearance of the Anthem of the Seas, two new ships that carry many new industry innovations, also got tweeters talking. And plenty of brands participated, including MSC Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Holland America Line, Carnival Cruise Line, Azamara Club Cruises, Costa Cruises and several river lines such as Viking River Cruises, Ama Waterways and Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection.
The first question, suggested by Avoya Travel, was: " With all of the innovations at sea, what’s on your cruise bucket list for 2016?"
"#Koningsdam guests can indulge in a farm-to-table-concept dinner in a transformed Culinary Arts Center" tweeted Holland America Line. " Cruising on our refurbished ships should be on your bucket list" tweeted Azamara.
"If you haven’t yet experienced the iFly, Flow Rider or North Star, these are a must see on your 2016 Bucket List" said Vicki Freed, Royal Caribbean's senior vice president of sales.
"On my cruise bucket list for 2016 is to master the F1 simulator on #MSCDivina," said MSC Cruises' executive vice president Ken Muskat.
"Hoping to test my skills in the Culinary Arts Kitchen on Regent Explorer. #twchats @kimberlywetty #foodie" tweeted Valerie Wilson Travel.
Two of the most retweeted tweets of the chat were in response to Question 3: "For active cruisers: From ropes courses to water slides, what shipboard activity gets your heart pounding?"
" Adrenaline junkies will feel right at home aboard our mini submarine on the Crystal Esprit," tweeted Crystal Cruises (chief Edie Rodriguez was also on the chat). Norwegian Cruise Line, meanwhile, wrote "The rush of the fastest waterslides at sea."
Immediately following the question about heart-pounding activities was one about new spots to relax. " We love @CelebrityCruise’s top deck Lawn Club. Nothing like a real picnic with ocean views to fully settle into vacation mode," said Avoya.
Other topics included food and beverage innovations, entertainment and how cruise lines have upped the ante on family programming.
