While planning the perfect wedding day is crucial, planning the last weekend of being single is just as important. And increasingly, brides-to-be are heading down South for that last hurrah: In a survey conducted by Four Loko, a brand of alcoholic beverages, six Southeastern cities ranked among the top 20 bachelor and bachelorette destinations for Americans.
Nashville was No. 8 on the survey, and while Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C., didn't make the list, both charmingly Southern cities offer everything necessary for an epic bachelorette weekend.
Nashville has over 160 live music venues, and hearing live music is "usually at the top of the list for bachelorette party groups," said Morgan Powell, digital marketing and public relations manager of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp.
But Nashville has a lot to offer beyond music. Music City Brew Tours buses customers to sample the goods at three craft breweries and brewpubs.
Biscuit Love serves up a true Southern breakfast. The eatery started out as a food truck and now has two restaurants in Nashville. Another must for foodies is Nashville's legendary hot chicken, which can be found at Hattie B's, Prince's, Party Fowl or Pepperfire.
"Bachelorette groups love restaurants that can not only accommodate large parties but also offer up a dining experience unique to Nashville," Powell said.
For accommodations, popular areas include downtown or midtown as well as the trendier 12South and East Nashville neighborhoods, according to Powell.
"Savannah's popularity as a girls' getaway and bachelorette party location is sort of at an all-time high," said Joseph Marinelli, president of the Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the city's Southern charm by exploring the City Market. Savannah is one of the few cities in the U.S. that has an open container law, so ordering a drink from a bar in a to-go cup and sipping it while listening to some live music is not a problem.
Or partyers can get a drink to stay at the Savannah Distillery Ale House, which offers over 20 craft beers and over 100 bottled beers.
Marinelli added that Savannah is a great destination for bachelorette parties because of its size.
"Whatever you're going to do, whether it's shop or dine or party, it's all walking distance," he said.
Visitors to this harborside city can spend the afternoon strolling through the Battery or hitting the shops on historical King Street, where they'll find Stars Grill Room and Rooftop, the only rooftop bar with a 360-degree view of the historical district and the seven church steeples.
The Belmond Charleston Place in the heart of downtown offers accommodations within walking distance of Charleston's major attractions.
The Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau website features a page on girlfriend getaways full of dining, shopping and nightlife suggestions.
