The second of three hotels slated to open this year at the
entrance to Key West opened May 20.
The Fairfield Inn & Suites will have 133 rooms,
including 17 suites. Other amenities will include a pool, a pool bar and a
fitness center. Guests will receive complimentary breakfast. Bookings for June
1 and later are available now, with rates starting at $149.
The Fairfield, which is on the Key West side of the short
bridge that takes motorists onto the island, will be part of the Keys
Collection, operated by Highgate Hotels. Also to be included in the collection
are the Gates Hotel, which opened its first of two buildings in April, and a
Hilton Garden Inn, which is slated for a fall opening. Cumulatively, the Keys
Collection will have 519 rooms. The lodges replace a Days Inn, a Lexington, a
Comfort Inn and a Quality Inn, all of which closed in 2013 and 2014.
The Gates, where 100 rooms are already operational, touts
itself as a chic locale with a minimalist design. The hotel seeks to create an
atmosphere that evokes the colorful history and independent spirit of the
Southernmost City. The Gates is pet friendly and has an on-site,
Caribbean-inspired food truck as a well as a pool, bar and lounge. Rooms start
at $167 per night.
The second Gates building, with an additional 145 rooms, is
scheduled for a September opening. Once fully operational, the hotel will be
