Through January, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Las Vegas is giving visitors an opportunity to share their wishes for a better new year via its Wishing Tree art installation.
Guests can use their smartphone to scan a QR code displayed near the tree and open an Instagram filter in which they use voice-activated technology to speak their wish. That wish will then be displayed in the canopy of the Wishing Tree along with wishes submitted by other visitors.
To create the experience, the Shoppes partnered with BestAgency, a Las Vegas creative agency specializing in events and entertainment, and Lumen & Forge, a Las Vegas immersive technology company with expertise in augmented reality and projection mapping, to develop the filter.
Commissioned for Grand Canal Shoppes, the 20-foot-tall Wishing Tree is the centerpiece of the recently renovated 375,000-square-foot retail space that resembles an Italian garden. Reminiscent of an olive tree commonly found in Venice, the Wishing Tree has more than 3,700 3D-printed and hand-installed brass leaves. Blue, red, jade, pink, rose and olive glass bird sculptures nest and "sing" in the tree.
