As my guide helped me adjust the seat of the white convertible Lamborghini, I looked out at red rocks that border Las Vegas to the west. For me, Red Rock Canyon and the surrounding area have always served as a place to take an early-morning solo jog or hike with my family on a lazy Saturday afternoon. But sitting in the seat of an exotic vehicle, driving through a part of town I’ve only ever bothered to define as a place to get outside and stretch my legs, I realized that Las Vegas is also about extreme activities embraced by people who visit the city for once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Through World Class Driving, I drove the Lamborghini as well as a Jaguar and a Ferrari, and the company also has packages that enable drivers to test out their skills with muscle cars. These are extreme experiences with extreme price tags (the basic exotics package costs $499 per driver), and travelers are willing and interested in spending the money for activities they can only do in Las Vegas.
The other people with whom I shared my exotic driving experience were all from Australia, and these travelers couldn’t get enough of it. This was the activity they’d been planning on since they booked their vacation to Las Vegas because there are so few places in the world where such an experience is possible. This is the mind-set of tourists who embrace that "only in Las Vegas" view of travel, and it’s an awesome opportunity for travel agents, as many of the extreme adventure outfitters in town offer commission packages of some sort.
If your clients aren’t into driving luxury vehicles on the outskirts of Las Vegas, don’t despair: There are plenty of other extraordinary activities that might grab their attention. Indoor and outdoor skydiving, operating heavy equipment, flying fighter jets, shooting a variety of guns and taking the plunge at the new SkyJump controlled freefall attraction atop the Stratosphere, are just a few of the thrilled-pack options available.
