Properties' wow factors, Western-style

River’s Edge Lodge combines modern aesthetics with a rustic lodge feel.
|

During a short visit to Jackson, I toured a handful of Clear Creek properties.

When it comes to wow factors, it's hard to beat Phillips Ridge, a totally secluded, 15,000-square-foot property on 56 acres that has a two-lane bowling alley; an indoor "grotto" with a hot tub, steam room and sauna; and a home theater with seating for 12.

The real wow, however, comes upon entering the home, with its 40-foot-high windows, wall-size paintings and an ornate, hand-carved bronze and wood staircase. The rustic, Western-themed property feels like it would have more than five bedrooms, but that's because each bedroom could itself be the master. Rates range from $65,000 to $100,000 per week.

In a sea of Western architecture, River's Edge Lodge is notable for its combination of modern aesthetic with a Western lodge feel. The 8,000-plus square foot house has views of Grand Teton and abuts the Snake River. As one travel agent noted, it would appeal to urban families looking for the modern aesthetic of home along with the feeling of being out West. Rates range from $12,500 to $20,000 per week.

For ski buffs, Clear Creek has several properties adjacent to Jackson Hole Ski Resort, which is located in Teton Village. The area doesn't have much in the way of true ski-in, ski-out homes, and Clear Creek has one in its portfolio, but several homes near the mountain offer shuttle service or are short walks to a tow-rope to the slopes.

Clear Creek represents 13 homes in the 1,300-acre Shooting Star development, located at the base of Teton Village. The homes are clad in reclaimed wood and have interesting layout touches like interior bridges between rooms. While homes near the ski resort tend to be located in clusters and have less privacy, Shooting Star's were designed to feel as private as possible and maximize uninterrupted views. Rentals includes shuttle service to the mountain, just minutes away, and include some community privileges, like use of the Tom Fazio-designed golf course. Cabin prices vary.

I stayed at one of the more modest homes in the Clear Creek portfolio, Golf & Tennis Cabin 27. Very convenient to the airport and right off the road toward the Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks, the cozy home with views of the Grand Teton range is a perfect base for exploring the region rather than one that would be the destination itself. Rates range from $3,500 to $5,950 per week.
