Qantas Airlines will become the first airline with nonstop flights between Australia and Las Vegas when it begins seasonal service on Dec. 29.
Flights will connect Sydney to Harry Reid Airport on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays through March 12, 2027. It will operate on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The 14-hour flight will depart Sydney at 9 p.m. and arrive in Las Vegas at 3:55 p.m. the same afternoon. The return leg will leave Las Vegas at 8:20 p.m. and arrive in Sydney 6:35 a.m. two days later.
"This is a proud moment for our airport and for the entire Las Vegas region," said Jim Chrisley, director of the Clark County Department of Aviation. "This route brings our two cities — Sydney and Las Vegas — closer than ever before. It represents new opportunity, new visitors and a new chapter in our partnership."
A top inbound market
Australia is consistently ranked as the city's second-largest overseas market and the top international market without a nonstop flight, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. About 250,000 Australians visit Las Vegas annually.
Las Vegas will become the 101st destination on the Qantas international network and the airline’s eighth city across North and South America, joining Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Dallas, New York, Vancouver and Santiago, Chile.
Qantas has operated charter flights for the past two years in partnership with the National Rugby League from Australia’s East Coast to Las Vegas to get fans to the Rugby League Las Vegas Festival.
