The "Battle on the Strip" is coming. No, it's not a gladiator-style tournament of ornery casino moguls, but an e-sports competition.
Competitive electronic gaming, otherwise known as e-sports, is growing rapidly. Between 2012 and 2014 the audience of frequent viewers and enthusiasts of e-sports expanded from 58 million to 89 million people, according to Newzoo, a market research firm.
Ultimate Media Ventures, a media and e-sports company, is partnering with SLS Las Vegas Hotel and Casino to host the Battle on the Strip, a recurring tournament series. Each month there will be a new competition bracket for a different video game.
"At the Battle on the Strip, top professional and up-and-coming amateurs will battle it out for bragging rights and cash prizes, competing against each other on equal footing," Jon Bukosky, CEO of Ultimate Media Ventures, said in a statement announcing the event. "We're thrilled to offer this one-of-a-kind tournament experience in one of the best venues in Las Vegas, featuring some of the top competitors and leading e-sports titles on a rotating basis."
The Battle on the Strip tournament series semifinals and finals will be broadcast from the SLS' live music venue, the Foundry. Fans are welcome to visit the SLS each month during the finals of each bracket, where leading gaming brands will also be on hand with products and apparel.
"E-sports is rapidly growing in popularity and expanding past traditional sporting events, in large part, due to its interactive live tournaments," Matt Minichino, vice president of nightlife and entertainment at SLS Las Vegas, said in a statement. "Competitive gaming represents the future of entertainment, and we are excited to partner with Ultimate Media Ventures to be the first to bring this incredibly unique experience to the Strip."
In the coming weeks Ultimate Media Ventures will announce the games that will be slated for monthly competition and additional prize pool details. For more information visit www.UltimateMedia.Ventures.
