San Francisco convention center to be expanded

|

Moscone CenterSan Francisco’s Moscone Center will get a $500 million expansion that will add as many as 400,000 square feet to the city’s convention facility by 2018.

The convention center currently has 2 million square feet.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the creation of the Moscone Expansion District, and will start collecting revenue for the project in July. Construction is set to begin by the end of next year.

The expansion will boost Moscone Center’s more than 700,000 square feet of exhibit space by about 80,000 square feet.

Moscone Center’s first stage was built in 1981, with ensuing additions in 1991 and 2003.
