Southwest offers fare special on inaugural Atlanta nonstops

Southwest Airlines announced it will launch daily roundtrip flights between Las Vegas' McCarran Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta as of March 10. The carrier will use 137-passenger Boeing 737 jets to fly once daily to Atlanta, which had been the nation's largest metropolitan area not yet served by Southwest.

The first Southwest flights to and from Georgia mark an anticipated milestone in the carrier's ongoing acquisition of Atlanta-based AirTran Airways. Through Oct. 1, Southwest is offering a $109 one-way base fare between Las Vegas and Atlanta for travel between March 10 and April 7.

Speaking to members of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce last month, Southwest President, Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly said the carrier is now bringing Atlanta residents "especially great value" and "flexibility."
