The time is right to dive into the Las Vegas pool scene

Closed last spring due to the pandemic, resort pools are back in action in Las Vegas.

Spring daytime temperatures are now reaching 90 degrees, more inviting than the monthslong furnace that typically begins in June. Covid-19 capacity restrictions and social-distancing protocols remain in force on the Strip's many sunlit decks.

Downtown

Las Vegas' newest hot spot is Stadium Swim at Circa Resort and Casino. Under a 143-foot-by-40-foot, 14 million-megapixel LED screen are six temperature-controlled pools with state-of-the-art filtration, two swim-up bars, live music and 50 cabanas.

"We expected demand for the Stadium Swim attraction to be high. And it's been spectacular," Circa owner Derek Stevens said back in February, at the height of winter in Vegas.  "People want to get outside. The pool's heated to 94 degrees. It's a great place."

Even when the sun goes down, the party atmosphere prevails, he says. "One surprise at Stadium Swim is that we're doing more bookings in the evening than we are during the day," Stevens said.

The Golden Nugget's the Tank and the Hideout pool complex includes a 200,000-gallon shark tank aquarium; an enclosed, three-story waterslide; and 17 cabanas. The Hideout's infinity pool and shaded lounge area is designed for guests 21 and older.

MGM Resorts International

MGM Resorts International features a variety of Strip-side pools for guests' every mood.

The Bellagio offers a romantic escape. Its Mediterranean-themed pool has spas, a garden vista cafe and an adults-only area with premium chaise lounge chairs and massage treatments.

The spacious, relaxing poolscape at the Aria offers elevated service and surprise indulgences every 90 minutes, like mochi ice cream and tropical fruit skewers. Liquid Pool Lounge is a reservation-only, 21-and-older experience with secluded cabanas.

The Pool & Cabanas at the Vdara Hotel & Spa is a rooftop getaway with private retreats and cabanas, semiprivate plunge pools and great views of the neighboring Aria.

The MGM Grand has 6.5 acres set aside for four swimming pools, three whirlpools, cascading waterfalls and a lazy river. Pool bars serve tropical cocktails and poolside fare. Guests 21 and older can reserve daybeds, banquets, bungalows and cabanas at the Wet Republic Ultra Pool.

Mandalay Bay' s 11-acre aquatic playground has a wave pool, a lazy river and a lagoon, while the more whimsical Delano Beach Club has playful amenities such as a submerged chessboard.

"While people go to (Washington) D.C. for cherry blossom season and Colorado for ski season, travelers come from all over the world to be a part of the Vegas pool season," said Ari Kastrati, chief hospitality officer at MGM Resorts International. "The city is known for its hot summer weather and its cool pool environments. Our teams are ready to help guests escape and enjoy a much-needed respite."

Health and safety are still paramount concerns. Pool lounge chairs are placed at least six feet between groups of guests, and chairs available on the pool deck are at 50% of the total occupancy. Cabana occupancy is limited to groups of six or less. Masks are required for guests at all times unless in the water or actively eating, drinking or smoking. Complimentary masks are provided to guests as needed.

All of MGM's cabanas, daybeds and other reserved seating can be booked in advance by visiting the MGM Resorts site.

Caesars Entertainment

The Garden of the Gods Oasis at Caesars Palace has seven pools with different vibes. They include the Temple pool, a focal point for socializing; the Fortuna pool, with swim-up blackjack; the family-oriented Jupiter pool, for younger swimmers; and the Bacchus, with luxury service from cabana hosts and cocktail servers.

Caesars Entertainment's sparkling lineup also includes the Go Pool at the Flamingo, with its cascading waterfalls, lagoons, cabanas and prime views of the High Roller. The lush, two-acre Soleil Pool area at the foot of the Eiffel Tower replica at Paris Las Vegas has air-conditioned cabanas, and guests can order food from poolside bistro Cafe du Parc and have it delivered to them on the pool deck.

Other Strip resorts

The Venetian's recently renovated oasis includes four pools on two acres with upgraded pool chairs, in-pool ledge loungers and daybeds. Spritz, by 50 Eggs Hospitality Group, has outdoor dining with both lighter options and heartier meals.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' Pool District has three distinct areas: The Boulevard Pool, with panoramic Strip views and dive-in movies; the Chelsea Pool, with specialty cocktails and light bites; and the Pool Marquee, with live music live DJ, specialty cocktails and bottle and food service.

The three-tiered Encore Beach Club promotes a more laid-back spirit. Eight bungalows offer a private bathroom, infinity dipping pool, cooling systems and a view of the Strip from a private balcony.

Pools are generally complimentary for guests. There are typically fees for cabanas and daybed rentals, which are also available for the public to purchase. Guests should inquire at specific properties for specific times, days, special events and services.

UPDATED: This report was updated on April 8 to clarify that the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' Pool Marquee is the only one that is open to all, while the other pools at the property are for hotel guests only.
