Visitors to the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore can already pick up a
Chanel bag, Hermes scarf or Alexander McQueen frock without leaving the
property. Now, Steve Wynn, the chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, is doubling
down on luxury retailers at his Strip resorts with the Wynn Plaza, slated to
open in 2017.
Inspired by Paris’ Avenue Matignon, which is known for its galleries
and upscale boutiques, the new development will include 75,518 square feet of
retail space and take over some prime real estate.
“We had 300 or more feet on the Strip right on the sidewalk in
unused real estate that was very, very valuable,” said Wynn in a press release.
“This represents an opportunity for future development that is quite unique.”
Wynn’s longtime collaborator, Roger Thomas, is working on the
design for the shopping space, which will emphasize light and airiness with
atriums and a skylight. While the tenants have not been announced, when the
project is complete, it will bring the total retail footprint at Wynn and
Encore to 173,500 square feet. That’s a lot of Chanel.
