Avalon Waterways introduced its latest Suite Ship class of vessel in Vienna, Austria, earlier this month.
The 166-passenger Avalon Illumination was christened on June 3 by Australian TV personality Deborah Hutton.
The Illumination is the third Suite Ship to be added to Avalon’s Europe fleet this year, and the eighth introduced by Avalon since the company debuted its Suite Ship concept three years ago with the launch of the Avalon Panorama.
A defining feature of the Suite Ships are the staterooms on the two upper decks that feature wall-to-wall sliding glass doors that can open to convert the cabin into an open-air balcony.
Next year Avalon will launch two more Suite Ships in Europe, the Avalon Tapestry II and Avalon Tranquility II, for a total of 10 Suite Ships and 15 vessels overall in Europe.
