Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection’s Maria Theresa
ship will be christened by Princess Anita von Hohenberg, a direct descendant of
the vessel’s namesake.
Maria Theresa, the archduchess of Austria and queen of
Hungary and Croatia, ruled the Habsburg Empire from 1740 to 1780.

Hohenberg is also the great-granddaughter of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria
and his wife Duchess Sophie von Hohenberg, whose assassination in 1914 is
widely regarded to have sparked World War I.
The 155-passenger Maria Theresa, Uniworld’s third in its
class of Super Ships (preceded by the Catherine and the Antoinette), is due to
enter service in late March. The christening will take place in Amsterdam on
The Maria Theresa will initially sail Uniworld’s “Tulips and
Windmills” itinerary between Amsterdam and Antwerp.
For the past three decades, Princess Anita has served as the
managing director and owner of the Artstetten Castle in Lower Austria. A former
summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty, the castle today is open to the
Uniworld said that a visit to the castle, including a glass of
champagne with the princess, is one of its exclusive tours.
