Citing “unprecedented demand,” Scenic Cruises has commissioned an additional river cruise ship, the Scenic Jade, to launch in Europe in 2014, which will bring its European fleet size to nine vessels.

Last month, Scenic launched its seventh river vessel in Europe, the 169-passenger Scenic Jewel. At that time, the company also announced it would launch an eighth ship, the Scenic Gem, in 2014.

The Scenic Jade will be the latest of Scenic’s Space-Ships class of vessels. Amenities will include personal butler service for all guests; cabins that feature walk-out balconies that convert into all-weather lounges with the push of a button; complimentary minibar stocked daily; and high-definition TVs linked to Mac Mini computers with complimentary Internet access in the cabins.

There are several dining venues onboard Scenic ships, including the River Café for casual dining, the Italian-themed Portobello Restaurant and Table La Rive, a degustation venue.

Scenic offers unlimited complimentary beverages onboard, not including top-shelf drinks. Scenic offers on most of its ships a personal onboard GPS system that provides commentary on sites as the ship passes them, as well as a personal handheld GPS unit that passengers can use for audio tours and navigation during independent sightseeing ashore.

The Scenic Jade will sail along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Scenic Cruises is owned by Australian parent company Scenic Tours.
