Scenic Cruises Balcony renderingScenic Cruises has spent nearly $10 million to rebuild five of its existing six river cruise vessels in Europe, the company said.

The five ships that were rebuilt were the 169-passenger Scenic Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby, Pearl and Crystal.

As part of the rebuilds, the ships have been gutted except for the walls and ceilings. Two new dining venues have been added to the ships: the casual River Cafe and the Table La River, a degustation venue.

The cabins received new wallpaper, marble desks and side tables, furniture and carpeting. And the majority of the cabins on the rebuilt ships now feature the Scenic Sun Lounge, an indoor/outdoor balcony with a push-button retractable window.

The lounge bar, reception and other common areas have all been upgraded, as well.

An upgraded WiFi system using both satellite and universal mobile telecommunications system technology will allow for faster Internet speeds.

For 2013, Scenic Cruises is offering unlimited complimentary beverages (excluding top-shelf labels), private butler service for every guest, high tea on the terrace and 24-hour room service.

Scenic Cruises is owned by Australian parent company Scenic Tours.
