Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection will launch one new river cruise vessel in 2014, not two as the company previously reported.
Last August, Uniworld unveiled plans to launch two newbuilds in Europe in 2014, the Alexandra and the Catherine.
The Alexandra was intended to be the sister ship to the 164-passenger Antoinette and was going to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, and the Catherine was going to be fashioned after the 132-passenger River Royale and sail in France.
But Uniworld has indefinitely scratched plans to launch the Alexandra and will instead only introduce the Catherine, sister ship to the Antoinette, which will sail in France. The company did not provide any further insight into why it was scaling back its newbuild plans.
The Catherine, which is being designed by Uniworld’s sister company, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, is the newest in Uniworld’s Super Ship class of vessels and will be styled to reflect France’s Rhone and Saone rivers.
Uniworld’s River Royale, currently sailing these rivers, will move to a new destination for Uniworld, France’s Bordeaux region. The new Bordeaux itineraries will be an eight-day Bordeaux, Vineyards & Chateaux and 15-day A Portrait of Majestic France cruise.
The Catherine will mark Uniworld's first expansion of its Europe fleet since the Antoinette launched in 2011. The ship is scheduled to set sail in spring 2014.
