Viking River Cruises will no longer market its product in Germany.

“Viking will concentrate on our on market-leading efforts in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States,” Viking's senior vice president of marketing, Richard Marnell, wrote in an email.

The company had no further comment beyond that.

Viking now will be solely focused on English-speaking markets, a move that comes just as Viking is undergoing huge growth and rapidly expanding its fleet size.

In 2009, when Germany-based competitor Peter Deilmann Cruises shuttered its river cruise business, Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen said that Deilmann had the challenge of catering to both English- and German-speaking customers.
