Alaska Airlines on May 15 will begin daily service between Houston Bush Intercontinental and Portland, Oregon.

Alaska's Boeing 737 service will compete against United, which flies the route two or three times daily. Houston is currently Alaska's largest unserved U.S. city from its Portland base.

The route was one of three announced by Alaska on Tuesday. All will touch Oregon. Also on May 15, the airline will commence daily service between San Diego and Medford as well as twice-daily service between Portland and Eugene, which is 110 miles to the north. Alaska will fly Embraer E175 regional aircraft on both routes.

Alaska will compete against twice-weekly Allegiant service on the San Diego-Medford route. It will be the only airline connecting Eugene and Portland.
