Allegiant Air has filed plans at the Transportation Department for expanding its scheduled route network into Mexico next year, with service linking Las Vegas with Hermosillo and Los Cabos.

The carrier told the DOT that it plans to serve both markets twice-weekly, year-round, using MD-80 aircraft configured for 166 seats. The service would start on or about June 1, 2014.

The carrier’s scheduled route network is entirely domestic, but it told the DOT that it has extensive experience operating to Mexico on behalf of various charter clients.
