American Airlines will add service between Portland, Ore., and its Miami hub in November, competing against newly announced Miami-Portland service to be operated by Alaska Airlines.

American's daily service is slated to begin Nov. 5.

The airline's announcement followed Alaska's news in mid-June that it would be the first airline flying between Portland and Miami. Alaska's daily service will launch Nov.17. Alaska said that Miami is the largest underserved city from Portland.
