Brazilian carrier Gol and American Airlines plan to implement a codeshare pact later this year.
Customers traveling to Brazil on American and transferring to a Gol flight within Brazil or elsewhere in South America will be able to purchase a single ticket for their trip and check luggage to their final destination.
Beginning Aug. 1, members of either frequent-flyer program will be able to earn miles on all eligible Gol and American flights. Sometime in the fall, customers will be able to redeem miles for travel on Gol and American flights, said American.
American operates 58 flights per week to and from Brazil. It flies to Sao Paulo from Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami and New York Kennedy. From Miami, American also flies to Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Recife and Salvador.
Gol serves 47 cities in Brazil. It also flies to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile.
