American Airlines will begin serving Venezuela as soon as April 30.

Finalization of a launch date is still pending regulatory approval from the U.S. and Venezuela.

Service, once it begins, will be daily from Miami utilizing regional Embraer E175 aircraft equipped with first class and economy cabins, the airline said Thursday.

"American was the first airline to announce plans to restart service to Venezuela, and we are encouraged by the progress we've made with both governments," Nate Gatten, American's executive vice president of its American Eagle regional brand, corporate real estate and government affairs, said in a prepared remark.

American last flew to Venezuela in early 2019, operating routes from Miami to Caracas and Maracaibo. Venezuelan carriers Avior and Estelar also connected the two countries until May 2019, when the DOT ordered a halt to nonstop U.S.-Venezuela flights.

The U.S. capture of ex-Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro in a Jan. 3 raid, followed by the much more compliant approach that Maduro's successor Delcy Rodriguez has taken to the U.S., opened the door for the potential resumption of commercial air service between the countries.
