Bird collision forces Ryanair emergency landing

A Ryanair flight from Frankfurt made an emergency landing at a Rome airport on Monday after a flock of birds hit the aircraft, according to the Associated Press.

The 737 aircraft suffered multiple bird strikes as it was approaching Ciampino Airport. Birds were sucked into the engine as the airplane was coming in to land.

The landing gear gave way when the plane came down at the far end of the runway, injuring three passengers and two crew members, according to airport fire official Marco Ghimenti.

The jet carried 166 passengers who deplaned through a door and an emergency chute.
